Club social nights

In winter we meet monthly to talk about up and coming events, and generally gossip about cycling. We also have a Christmas ride and an annual dinner and prize giving.1st Monday in the month @ Glaxo Social club at Barnard Castle

Winter Training rides

The aim of the winter rides is to keep some of the hard earned fitness gained in the summer through the winter months< Riding with a group means that you can go on a longer ride with some company, shelter behind the riders to rest when you tire, and of course while you are talking the miles disappear.

There are two groups that leave on a Saturday morning, a faster group that aims to average 17/18mph and a slower group. There is no obligation to take a turn on the front, and if you need to stop we wait for you.

Do I have to be a fully committed racer to join in?

We encourage members to race, as it is great fun. But if you want to join in on the winter fitness or use the evening 10s for training you are more than welcome If you are training for Triathalons then the evening 10km may be a good way of training for the bike race, or in the winter for keeping the strength up. The club activities will also benefit 24 hour MTB racers as a way of gaining race fitness either in winter or top up in the early summer.

Club 10Km TT

The club 10Km evening time trial takes part in the early to mid summer. It is as much of a social gathering as it is about racing and league points The race element is done by the book, there is a signing on sheet, you get a number and are started off in minute intervals and you are timed. Racing is against the clock and ultimately against yourself. There are no team tactics, it is up to you as a rider how hard you push yourself around the 10km course. As you come to more events you can compare you previous times to see how you did. You don't need to spend a kings ransom on a specialist Time Trial bike, an ordinary road bike will do, we have had people turn up on mountain bikes before! The pre-race and post-race banter is friendly and most of the participants ride over to the meeting point at the junction to Hutton Magna and Caldwell.
